The auditory range of ordinary people
0-20 decibels is very quiet and almost imperceptible.
20-40 decibels quiet, like soft whispers.
40-60 decibels are generally acceptable. Ordinary indoor conversation.
60-70 decibels noisy and nerve damaging.
70-90 decibels are very noisy and cause damage to nerve cells.
Amidst increased noise levels ranging from 90 to 100 decibels, hearing loss may occur.
100-120 decibels are unbearable, and staying for one minute can temporarily cause deafness.
Over 120 decibels: extremely deaf or completely deaf.
